Help me choose
I finished recording the entire audiobook of the first volume of the Ring of Saturn Saga. Giving voice to characters, descriptions, events, integrating my art as an actor with my art as a writer, I think is really the pinnacle of my creativity. I admit it: I had a lot of fun. I tried to give, to those who decide to listen to it in its entirety, an immersive experience as a true storyteller.
I wrote this story without thinking of narrating it aloud, but to tell a piece of myself and then fly with the imagination. As you will discover, the story starts from a true, real, tangible basis: the story of a boy torn from his roots who arrives in an unfamiliar village. A sensitive, introverted, game-loving, somewhat French boy -- in short, I start from what I know. But then, as the story really becomes "history" and the fantasy world I imagined takes shape, the characters began to speak with their own voices, to think for themselves, and then Flavio, the writer, took over, who began to conduct the orchestra of truths that Flavio, the person, had decided to donate as a "piece of meat" to begin with.
And now, along comes Flavio, the actor, embodying the characters, giving them voice, making them real. What a thrill! Each character is a fragment of me, a piece of memory, of desire, of dream. To be able to add the nuances of my humanity within the story is truly an unheard of pleasure.
I decided to make it an audiobook for my dad, who can no longer see very well and for whom reading a book has become difficult. Here, then, is my way to share this art with him, to give him a chance to discover this side of me. And in return, it will be for you as well. The audiobook represents a new way to discover reading, whether it is in the car, while cooking or before falling asleep, with the lights off. For this reason, I have focused a lot on immersiveness, because I feel it is an ancient, one might even say original, way of telling a story, which also overcomes the barrier of reading. I hope to bring many people closer to books in this way.
I did it with all the love in the world, as I try to do everything. It is an independent process, in which I was able to control every creative aspect and stamp my signature on the whole project. I hope it will live up to everything else.
Volume One of Saturn's Ring is 274 pages long, and the audiobook will last 6 hours and 40 minutes. Recording it was an intense experience, during which I often ran out of saliva, but, as I said, it was an activity that I enjoyed immensely. I believe that narrating the stories I write is really a way to connect the dots, to offer a complete view of my humanity, both inner and outer.
I have decided to share with all of you who follow Artist's Diary three samples of the audiobook, followed by a poll. If you listen from Spotify, you need to come to the site to listen and vote (flavioparenti.com). You could help me choose which sample you like best and which one arouses the most desire for you to listen to the whole story. The winner will be the sample that I will use as an introduction to the book on the Internet.
The calling card for those who are to discover this new story...
