Christmas.

What does Christmas represent? In a certain sense, I believe this holiday, like every valuable possession we possess, is charged with a story to tell. Let's imagine it as the protagonist of a tale.

The story of how Christmas was born.

Once upon a time, a long time ago, there lived a people of primitive, intelligent men, with great potential, but still too little knowledge. A people full of myths and legends. They lived in a magical world, where everything was shrouded in mystery. Without atoms, without sun, without snow. Every event was a mysterious act.

In this world, there was light and night, the sun and the moon. And how terrifying the night was! With all those animals ready to eat them, the sounds of the forest. A place where one had to take refuge deep in caves to be sure of not being attacked at night, should the fire go out.

And what a relief it was when, on the night of December 21st, the night began to grow shorter than the previous day. A moment of suspension, of introspection, in which the happy days of spring finally dawned.

That date (which wasn't yet a "date," since time still had no name) was a turning point in nature, a crucial climatic moment. A moment when everything became more beautiful. And so, they exchanged gifts, wishing each other, with that gift, a promise of fertility, of opulence.

Thus, for hundreds, perhaps thousands of years, men celebrated the rebirth of life, of the sun, of light. As reality gradually took shape before their eyes, as the first thoughts, philosophy, religions, and science emerged, the world took on meaning, and our ability to foresee the future strengthened. And after the birth of the word, the discovery of the stars and the sun, that magical day was christened "the winter solstice."

"Solstice", from the Latin "solstitium", composed of "sun" and "stitium" The moment when the sun stops.

"Winter", from the Latin "Hibernus", the cold season.

The moment when the sun stops, during the cold season.

After giving it a name, we also gave it a higher, philosophical, humanistic meaning. The moment of the birth of life. Stories and tales arose about the magic of that moment, which, in every place and every era, found a different identity, yet conveyed the same message.

And that's how Christmas came to us. I'll leave aside how Saint Nicholas's green costume became Santa Claus's red and white, influenced, let's face it, by Coca-Cola advertising.

But what does it matter to us? What matters is that from now on, there will be more and more light and less and less darkness.

Merry Christmas to you all.

PS: During the holidays, the artist's diary will only be published once a week, and then we'll start again!

  1. Flavio you are really good at writing and reciting your writings....Tancredi, what can I say is unpleasant but you are good at making this character like this?

  2. Flavio in the ladies' paradise I don't like you. After reading some of your writings I have to say that I like you a lot, in fact exceptional 😘

  3. The story of the Christmas legend is very engaging, it is the celebration of the birth of a baby god Jesus who came from heaven and who brings magic and hope with him and marks the passage to a new year. I hope that the light of Christmas brings you the bright future you are waiting for. Thank you for this beautiful passage from the artist's diary. A hug.

    Beautiful narration, it moved me
I'm late in wishing you all
Happy Holidays and let's hope for a 2024 marked by PEACE🕊️🕊️🕊️🩵
    I haven't sent anything yet

  5. I don't understand why it made you smile. Is it a baseless concept? I think it hurts less with time, but you'll always have a beautiful memory of him. Only reason leads you on the right path.

  6. Thank you, your beautiful words filled with magic. As a Christian, I can tell you that December 25th is certainly not the birth of the Savior. What's important is the memory that lives on in our hearts. As you rightly say, thanks to advertising and the mainstream media, everything is being reconfigured for profit. Congratulations on your always clear and engaging reading. I wish you and your family a peaceful holiday. I hope you'll write something about the Three Wise Men, the only ones who understood anything at that time.

  7. In my opinion, the secret of every legend, including that of Christmas, is to tell its story, only in this way does everyone become a legend, from the Latin meaning "to be read" together with those who listen and thus the humanity that is born giving rise to the story of Christmas is realized: Christmas means: someone is born, we celebrate by exchanging gifts.

  8. Beautiful page dedicated to Christmas.
A song by Marco Mengoni called “Luce” came to mind.
Happy holidays to you and your family!

  9. I particularly enjoyed this page, especially some of the definitions. And then your voice, which every time I listen to the artist's pages, really captures my attention. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to you and your family. Bye Flavio

  11. It's true, Christmas is a story for each of us to tell... with its memories, both beautiful and sad, where the absences are felt more strongly than ever... but it is always Christmas, a time of rebirth, magical.
Thank you Flavio, Merry Christmas to you and your family.
    See you soon

  12. Winter solstice: "the moment when the sun stands still, during the cold season." A beautiful definition, but the most interesting part is the conclusion: "What matters is that from now on, there will be more and more light and less and less darkness."
May it be so for each and every one of us!
